Our nation is not unlike a book, in that it requires a clarity of mind, a thoughtful determination, a compassionate imagination and an honest charm to be worth reading, particularly abroad. The last few chapters have been painfully bad. I am counting on Barack Obama, himself a good writer, to fix the plot, adjust the tone, bring in new characters and keep people turning pages. Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket) |

Our country is in great need of healing and leadership. I believe that Barack Obama brings wisdom and compassion to the presidency and will restore America's credibility on the world stage. More importantly, as a father and husband, he clearly values and respects children. I find that very telling and trust he will make intelligent decisions for America's children and families. Marc Brown |

I cannot imagine anyone more uniquely suited to reach out to, relate to, and lead a racially and culturally diverse nation, in a racially and culturally diverse world than a biracial man, born of an American and an African, and partially raised in Indonesia. Nikki Grimes |

Leaving aside all the significant domestic policy improvements that an Obama presidency may usher in, for my money (and my vote) the chance to redeem America's sullied reputation on the world stage, a chance I thought we might not have for another generation, is reason enough for me to endorse Obama. And an improved reputation the world round means improved security at home on every front imaginable. Gregory Maquire |

I can't imagine any election more important than this one for our children and grandchildren's future. If we are ever to have peace and prosperity again, it will be through the leadership of an intelligent and honorable leadership. That's why I'm supporting Barack Obama. Lois Lowry |

I’m for children. President Obama will improve their education, their health care, their security, and their economic future. If she could, Ella Enchanted would vote for Obama, so I’m voting for both of us! Gail Carson Levine |

As a children's book author I am constantly rewarded by children's capacity to face life, with all its complexity, and struggle to survive adversity, and their spirit renews in me the hope in the human race. But children and young people deserve responsible adults that make their growing years safe and enriching. Please join me in supporting Obama's candidacy in the name of our children and youth! As someone who remembered Kennedy inspiring people to ask us what we could do for our country, Obama is also that type of leader who can and will inspire us to do great things, unselfish things. Change is not about fear. It's about necessity. Chris Demarest |

We need a leader who will be an example for the children we care so much about--an intelligent leader who promotes peace, respect for diversity, repugnance of prejudice, and who understands that the future of our planet depends on the decisions we make now. Phyllis Reynolds Naylor |

The United States is a great nation, but also a lucky one. In times of crisis we have been blessed with strong leadership. From Lincoln to Roosevelt, our best leaders have been characterized by clear insight, steely nerves, audacity and compassion. Obama has these qualities. We're lucky to have him. Mark Teague |

I'm supporting Barack Obama because I believe in his honesty, integrity and the clarity of his vision. After 8 years of Bush squandering American lives and resources, we need a President who doesn't take his marching orders from corporate cronies. Pat Cummings |

I support Barack Obama because I believe he wants me to know what he really stands for and works to make that happen. I believe the people I've worked with, and written about, all my life will be better taken care of on his watch. I'm sick of the group of people, with whom McCain has thrown in, who will literally say anything to win and who have such disdain for the common American. I want to be proud again. Chris Crutcher |

America is at a critical juncture in its history and has never so desperately needed a new kind of leadership, one that is informed by intelligence, maturity, a reasoned approach to affairs both domestic and international, a spirit of collegiality and comity, and a capacity for restoring hope and a recommitment to the essential basic freedoms that once made America such a source of inspiration. This is the kind of leadership that Barack Obama can provide and this is why I support him with all my heart. Michael Cart |

The last eight years have given us and the world uneccesary war, justification of torture, the trashing of our constitution, and global economic chaos. Electing Barrack Obama is our only choice, and maybe last chance, to return the world to sanity. Mordecai Gerstein |

I am voting for Barack Obama because he is the best hope for this country and for all of us. The next president will inherit the wreckage of the Bush years, but I trust in Barack Obama's intelligence and caring heart to return us to being all that we can be. Eve Bunting |

Over the last eight years, I have been embarrassed by the lack of intellectual curiosity and rigor on the part of those in America's high places. I have been appalled at their moral standards--in my world, domestic spying, torture of prisoners, and telling lies to one's own constituents ranks high on the bad morals list. At last we have the possibility to have someone who is both smart--possibly brilliant--and whose own life as well as his approach to life is beyond reproach. Jane Yolen |

I am against the Iraq war, I am against the United States going broke, I am against acts of terrorism as expressed and approved of on the campaign trail, so who in my right mind could I possibly support but Obama? Jules Feiffer |

I support Barack Obama because I believe he will lead us forward to our true moral center. For me this means communities where people work together for the common good, schools that demand the best education for individual children, innovations inspired by a proper and dedicated stewardship of the earth's natural resources, political discourse that refuses to engage in petty, mean spirited shouting and finger pointing, and a foreign policy that combines strength with diplomacy, so that once again people of all nations can look to us to adhere to the standards of human decency. We don't have one more minute to squander. The time is now or never. Elizabeth Winthrop |

I support Barack Obama because the America I believe in -- the home of liberty and justice for all; the culture that values tolerance, enlightenment, progress and generosity; the nation that turns its resources toward solutions to global problems -- has been held hostage for eight years, and I want her back. And because the thought of John McCain and Sarah Palin shaping our kids' world for the next four years simply terrifies me. Sara Pennypacker |
